Expects Review since PM and SC are unable to Resolve the Impasse

Chandigarh/New Delhi, 6th January, 2025: Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) appreciates the President of India, Shrimati Droupadi Murmu for considering its request for an appointment and giving a written response. However, SKM expresses its deep regret that the President could not accede to meet the farmers’ delegation due to paucity of time.

SKM expects review on this crucial request for her intervention since Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Supreme Court are so far unable  to resolve the impasse and to take constructive steps to save the life of the farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal fasting for the last 41 days.

Being the head of the State of India, she has the responsibility to help the constitutional institutions of the Executive and the Judiciary to adhere to the time tested democratic principles of governance, hold discussions with the farmers on struggle and ensure harmonious solution to their severe sufferings including no remunerative price to their crops, increasing cost of production, widespread indebtedness, peasant suicide, acute unemployment and footless distress migration originated out of the Neo-liberal reforms by the successive Union Governments that resulted in the current acute agrarian crisis.

Instead of discussions to resolve their distress, the NDA3 Government has been facilitating fresh onslaught by the Agribusiness Corporations on agriculture and livelihood of the farmers, agricultural workers, small traders and petty producers and on the federal rights of the State Governments through the introduction of the new National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing –NPFAM that is dangerous than the repealed 3 Farm Acts.

Farmers are forced to again adhere to the path of struggles due to the violation of the agreement signed by the Union Government dated 9th December 2021 regarding the long pending demands of MSP@C2+50% with guaranteed procurement, comprehensive loan waiver and no privatisation of electricity among others. The Modi Govt. was forced to repeal the 3 Farm Acts and sign the agreement after 385 days of massive struggles and 736 farmers became martyrs during that period.

If the Prime Minister is neglecting the growing unrest among the farmers and the people in general all over India against the acute agrarian crisis, then the only way ahead is to unleash  massive and peaceful protests larger than the 2020-21 historic farmers struggle that was actively supported by the workers.

We hope, the President, Shrimati Droupadi Murmu will consider the repeated request in the context of the grave situation faced by the farmers who have been wasting no time – day or night- in producing food for the entire citizens including those taking the pain to discharge their statutory obligations to govern the State.
