The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing crackdown on corruption, on Thursday arrested Pawan Kumar, a deed writer at Sub-Tehsil Goraya in Jalandhar district, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.

An official spokesperson of the VB revealed that the arrest was made based on an online complaint filed by a resident of Phagwara on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.

The complainant alleged that the accused had demanded and accepted the bribe on behalf of Joint Sub-Registrar of Sub-Tehsil Goraya in Tehsil Phillaur and a Registry Clerk, posted at the Sub-Registrar’s office in Goraya, in connection with the execution of a sale deed.

During the investigation, the VB found the allegations to be true, leading to the arrest of the accused deed writer. A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Range Jalandhar. He will be produced before the competent court tomorrow.

The spokesperson added that the roles of the Joint Sub-Registrar and Registry Clerk would be examined as the investigation progresses.
