AAP Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora today expressed satisfaction over the impactful results of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s ongoing war against drugs in the state. Addressing the media, he highlighted the comprehensive strategy undertaken to combat the menace of drugs, which has plagued Punjab for decades.
Minister Arora stated that the AAP government, under the leadership of National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, had launched the anti-drug campaign with an unwavering commitment to eradicate this societal evil. He noted that the initiative is being executed with a dual-pronged approach focusing on supply reduction and demand reduction.
On the enforcement front, Punjab Police has intensified its crackdown on drug suppliers and smugglers. Over the past 15 days, 1,488 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered, leading to the arrest of 2,049 individuals involved in drug peddling and smuggling. The police have also demolished 28 drug-related illegal properties built using drug money, sending a strong message to those profiting from this destructive trade.
Minister Arora revealed that during this campaign, a substantial quantity of drugs has been seized, including 1,270 kilograms of various narcotics. Additionally, Rs. 63 lakh in drug money and over 7.16 lakh capsules and tablets have been recovered. These recoveries underscore the government’s determination to disrupt the supply chain of drugs in Punjab.
While stringent enforcement is pivotal, the AAP government is equally focused on reducing demand by engaging civil society. Arora acknowledged the critical role played by parents, teachers, and youth in raising awareness and supporting rehabilitation efforts. The government has also emphasized the importance of assisting individuals who have fallen victim to drug addiction. Many former addicts are now coming forward to seek help and reintegrate into society.
Arora further explained that a comprehensive 360-degree plan has been implemented to address the root causes of drug abuse. He highlighted that this battle against drugs is not merely a government initiative but a collective mission involving every segment of society. Civil society’s active participation has strengthened the campaign, making it a truly people-centric movement.
The Minister also emphasized the AAP government’s zero-tolerance policy towards those facilitating the drug trade. He noted that the nexus of corrupt politicians, officials, and smugglers that operated under previous governments has been dismantled. The state is now witnessing a transformative shift, with parents, community leaders, and youth uniting to fight this menace.
Arora warned drug smugglers and peddlers to abandon their illegal trade or leave Punjab. He reiterated the government’s resolve to create a drug-free Punjab and assured that strict action would continue against those indulging in this nefarious activity.
The results of this campaign, Aman Arora said, are visible and encouraging. The AAP government’s firm stance against drugs has not only curbed the supply chain but also instilled hope among the people of Punjab. The Minister concluded by urging everyone to join hands with the government in this noble mission to secure a healthier and brighter future for Punjab.
